THE AREA

La  Sabina or the Sabine Hills, is a fascinating territory, which perhaps more than any other area of central Italy, has preserved its
original rural character. It is mostly known in history due to the story of ‘The rape of the Sabine women’ in which the Romans took the
Sabine ladies to be their brides:
Although Sabina is relatively close to Rome, (just 60 km north) its tranquility is juxtaposed with the frenetic pace of the city. The
landscape is greener than many people expect and the patchwork of vineyards and olive groves make the scenery unmistakably Italian.
 For travellers who like the less discovered and off the beaten track itineraries, this area of Lazio, will offer splendid scenery, tranquil
roads without a single tour bus, rolling olive clad hills dotted with tiny medieval hilltop villages, and small hidden treasures to discover
and savour.


There are many places to visit within a short drive:
Farfa Abbey dating back to the 6th century, this famous  Benedictine Abbey was, during the middle ages, one of the richest and most
important religious momuments in Italy, rivaling with the Vatican itself. ( well worth a visit)!

Roman villa of Cottanello Villa Romana, the ruins of a country farm belonging to a relative of Julius Ceasar, ,Sanctuary of Vescovio a suggestive romanesque church, once the cathedral of Sabina, built on the site of a small Roman market
town, the olive oil museum in Castelnuovo of Farfa,Museo dell’Olio.
Mount Soratte and it’s underground galleries used as bunker during second world war Bunker Soratte;
Rieti a historical city, the regional capital of the area is 40 min drive  the historical center of which is stratified from the pre-Roman era to
the early Middle Ages 
Montasola with a lovely park,  Catino with a Longbard tower and Roccantica, are just some of the beautiful medieval villages to
explore in the area.
Greccio deserves a special visita as it was here in 1223 that Saint Francis of Assisi with the local nobility created the very first living
nativity scene, and it been perform here every year since then. the Valle Santa of Rieti. The 4
Franciscan Santuaries are all located in the surronding territory known as la .Valle Santa


Rome the Eternal city
is easily accessible from Casperia by local bus and train,so take a day trip and explore the magnificense of the
Eternal city, from our local station the trains go to Rome Tiburtina (45 mins,) and continue then to Rome Fiumicino airport (90 mins)
After a day of visiting Rome with it’s historical sites, it’s churches and museums, between fountains, elegant shops and nice  cafes come
back on the train from Tiburtina station to relax in the peaceful village of Casperia  and chill on our terrace ( with a glass of wine…)
Depending on the length of your stay   in Casperia   many hidden gems of  Lazio are reachable for a day trip,volcanic lakes Bolsena and Bracciano,

with spectacular scenery ,Castles Abbeys and Rennaisance gardens;

  • Villa D’Este, Tivoli
  • Villa Lante , Bagnaia.
  • Palazzo Farnese , Caprarola.
  • The Sacred wood , Bomarzo,
  • Castello Ruspoli, Vignanello.

The beautiful region of Umbria is within driving distance from Casperia and some of  the most interesting and famous cities in Italy  can be the alternative choice for a day trip.
The Marmore waterfall, which is  the highest in Europe, together with Lake Piediluco makes a pleasant  excursion from Casperia, in spring and summer
Orvieto, amazing hilltop city with Etruscan undergound catacombs and the wonderful Duomo,with Signorelli’s last judgement

Spoleto where the festival of two worlds is held, Todi with its stunning architectur, Assisi the Basilica of Saint Francis, Patron Saint of Italy.
